This post isn’t a recipe, but rather an invitation to join me for a November of giving thanks…actually, thanks²!

It’s very simple.

My poet-photographer-reader-creative-artist-kind-amazing-and-thoughtful friend, Beth, has organized a project amongst some friends in our community called “thanks²“. Basically, everyone is invited to upload a photo a day during the month of November giving thanks for something in your lives. If you’re a smart phone-er (like Yours Truly, who just bought my very first iPhone!!), would encourage you to use Instagram or Retrocamera to upload a square photo. Hence, thanks “squared”. But any size photos, uploaded however many days you can, will be great. The idea is simply to be thankful — on the days when that comes easily, as well as the difficult days when you may have to intentionally seek out something to be grateful for. You can read on below for guidelines about how to tag and post on Twitter/Facebook to share your photos and captions with others.

I love this for so many reasons.

So, I will be posting on my Facebook and Twitter accounts daily during November, and would be totally honored to have you join along! Cheers to kicking off this year’s holiday season the best way I can imagine — with thanks!!!

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any–lifted from the no
of all nothing–human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Guidelines for Thanks² (via Beth)

1. Take a picture on your phone with Instagram (iphone) or Retrocamera (android, etc). Both are free apps, so as long as you have a smart phone – you’re good to go! The point is, that both of these take square pictures – thus, thanks², aka thanks squared. But even if you don’t have a smart phone, if your phone can take photos – use that. No need for anything fancy. It’s all about the simplicity.

2. Write one line (poetry, prose) that pairs with your image as a caption.

3. When you post your image, please @thanks² (if you can–you may not be able to from your phone) and tag it with “thanksq” + the 2-digit day of the month – e.g. #thanksq01

*Note: If you can do it every day – great; if you can’t – no worries. :)

*Follow along on Facebook on the thanks² page.
